The young British runner, who celebrated his 20 years the day before departure, surprised us on the difficult roads of the Tour d’Alsace. Very well placed at the end of the prologue, the first stage in line was more intended for sprinters, favorable terrain for Belgian champion Tim Merlier. But the 2nd day, with this arrival at the top of the Planche des Belles Filles which frankly reminds us of the Grande Boucle, was waiting for a climber to come and make an impression. But the hopeful cyclo-cross world champion had decided otherwise, and he went for the victory in front of Alexander Evans, beating the odds. Now in the lead overall, he was able to calmly approach the 3rd stage, concluded victoriously by Michal Schlegel, while Tom Pidcock took 13th place at 36 seconds in the company of his closest pursuers in the general classification. The last stage was played in a sprint, and it was again Tim Merlier who won, in front of Frantisek Sisr and… Tom Pidcock ! This gives us an idea of the extent of the qualities of this young man whom we will undoubtedly see again in the near future.
