After falling heavily on the Tour of Lombardy, Belgian Remco Evenepoel had to be taken to hospital. His sports director, Davide Bramati, removed an object from its runner’s pockets before it was placed on a stretcher to be carried back to the ambulance. Images showing his gesture quickly raised a lot of questions on social media, and we just learned that the UCI was going to investigate the scene to determine the nature of the object. Indeed, they suspect the presence of a data transmitter, whose transmission is regulated very precisely by the international racing body. So, a team cannot access any data from the riders' bikes, this is why the UCI wishes to verify this point. The sports directors had also indicated that they understood that Remco had fallen because he had stopped transmitting data, which aroused the curiosity of investigators from the Union Cycliste Internationale.
