The women's Tour de France in 2022, it becomes clearer !

by William Duvigneau

The announcement had already been made by ASO, the organizer of the Tour de France, providing for the return of a women's event in the format of a stage race. From now on, we know more about this meeting, which promises to be the highlight of the women's season. So, the Tour de France will start on 24 July, day of the arrival of the Men's Tour on the Champs Elysées. It will count 8 steps, a format similar to that of the Tour of Italy already organized each year. The route of the first stage will take the Parisian avenue, thus ensuring significant media coverage that could make as many viewers as possible want to follow the rest of the event, whose final route should be unveiled next October alongside the announcement of the men's edition route.

A major challenge for women's cycling

This new event on the international calendar is a great opportunity to boost women's cycling, by making it more attractive and giving it the media visibility it deserves. The first edition of Paris Roubaix at the end of the season also goes in this direction. Among the flagship events for men, now only Milan San Remo will be missing, the Tour of Lombardy and the Vuelta a España. The latter could also offer a female version in the years to come.. For the Grande Boucle next year, the direct will be provided by France Television, and this for 4 next editions, which is a real asset for the launch of the event, which will be available to the general public in clear as the men's event. A real boost for women's cycling particularly weakened by the health crisis. Proof of the interest of cycling stakeholders in this new event, there will be many partners associated with the event. So, well-known sponsors such as LCL and Tissot will be part of the adventure, but also E. Leclerc, Liv Cycling et FDJ, who will bring their contribution to the building, while the Zwift online platform will be one of the major partners of this edition 2022. This time, that's it, the Women's Tour is well and truly back, which could offer serious prospects for the development of cyclists from different women's groups, who were waiting for this with undisguised impatience, still regretting the too large gap between women's and men's cycling.
