Yoann Offredo bows out after 13 years of professionalism

by William Duvigneau

Yoann Offredo, member of the Intermarché Wanty Gobert group, announced the end of his career today. Heavily affected following a fall during the Tour de France 2019, he had been hospitalized then operated, and thought he could regain his level. But not everything went as planned, and he was finally unable to find a sufficient condition to pursue his career, unable to participate in physical activity at this time. He returned to this passage on his team's website : “I wanted to announce the end of my career to thank the people who surrounded and supported me, but I wasn’t able to. When you're used to riding thirty hours a week, and that you find yourself unable to practice your sport but also have difficulty walking, it's not simple, neither physically, mentally naked. I miss having pain in my legs, to be cold, to be tired. It's always impossible to play a sport, I am forced to rest. I take care of other activities, such as meetings with the UCI regarding race safety, reports for the Stade program 2, and I became godfather of two amateur clubs”. Indeed, this summer, the Ile-de-France resident tried his hand at the role of consultant on France Television's antenna for the Grande Boucle, with some success. “I want to find a goal in life, and for this I chose to continue my studies. In September 2021, I am starting a Masters in Political Sciences, specializing in Journalism. For the next few months I will remain active in cycling on the other side of the barrier. During my beautiful years chee Circus Wanty Gobert, I have met a lot of business leaders and have always had a good relationship with these team partners. Some have already contacted me regarding my future. Even though I leave the Circus Wanty Gobert core, I will always remain linked to the team”. A difficult end of career for the French 34 years, which is sure to bounce back with the temperament we know.
