Poc Aim Black

by William Duvigneau

We continue our review of the equipment offered by the Swedish brand Poc, partner of EF Pro Cycling training, with these Aim Black glasses. A model goes everywhere rather upscale, with very large lenses and an atypical design. Without further ado, we give you our impressions…

Lightness and protection

Visually, first impressions are pretty good. The glasses are very wide, as is the current trend, the design is rather sober and classy, no frills. Far from the Oakleys or 100% sometimes very colorful, here we are faced with a boilerplate model, which will appeal to fans of a rather modern style. In terms of weight, the 40g will undoubtedly be appreciated by the most demanding runners, and allow a very interesting level of comfort. Light glasses therefore, but also very protective. Indeed, the width of this model makes it possible to cover the face in a very pleasant way, preventing the wind from entering and thus obstructing visibility. All types of weather are perfectly supported with these glasses, which also react well in very hot weather. No need to remove them to wipe your eyes every 15 minutes, even for those who sweat a lot (as is my case).

The very wide coverage is appreciable, and very well thought out

Excellent hold

The Poc Aim also have another advantage : their outfit. They are very worked from this point of view and allow the cyclist not to worry about their placement, avoiding him to reposition them too often. An important detail for those who chase the kilometers or the intensity sessions, because it is more than unpleasant to have to wind up your glasses every time the condition of the road deteriorates. A strong point of this model, that we owe to the grip on the nasal protectors (effective even in damp conditions), to which must be added the very practical and well thought out possibility offered by the brand's helmets, and in particular the Ventral Air Spin NFC, which provide notches suitable for storing glasses, which have proven to be very effective.

Branches, both simple and very effective, ensure quality maintenance

Too fragile a glass ?

This is the only downside that we could find with this model. Indeed, it is not uncommon for glasses to be used very frequently, by dint of removing or putting them down. It is therefore necessary that the latter offer a minimum resistance to this type of stress., in order to preserve them as long as possible. Here, the frame covering only the upper part of the glass, the lower part is therefore very vulnerable. A detail that is not, because every time you put your glasses in the “bad” meaning, the glass receives slight shocks, which end up wearing down the coating, showing some scratches on the underside of the glass. It is therefore essential to place them only on the reinforced part., and on a surface that dampens a minimum, to avoid wearing them out too quickly. However, once this little habit has been taken, glasses age very well, 3 months of daily use attest to this. A point that it would be interesting to reinforce in future versions, without this tarnishing the picture of the current model.

Our opinion

We were more than seduced by this model, which offers everything a cyclist looks for in these workouts. We are clearly on the high end, with a very successful finish and design. Sun protection is very effective, and the many glasses offered for purchase will adapt to all uses. They are also very easy to clean. An excellent model, which would benefit from being reinforced at the level of the glass, but who will not disappoint anyone, we can assure you.
