Fredrik Dversnes, 26 years, have a great month of April, reflecting the beginnings of a career full of hope. Indeed the member of Team UNO-X chained the good performances on the French circuit in the space of 10 days. Find out more about this Norwegian phenomenon through our interview.
Cycling Times : Hello Fredrick. Can you introduce yourself to our readers ?
Fredrik Dversnes: My name is Fredrik Dversnes (26 years) and I'm part of the Uno-X Pro Cycling team. I come from Egersund, in southwestern Norway, and I studied carpentry. In fact, I worked at 100% as a carpenter for four and a half years, before getting a contract and starting cycling for a continental team (Team Coop).
CT : Already two years that you are professional. How do you sum up your time in the youth categories ?
FD : I really started cycling when I had 18 years, I trained a little in the years leading up to, but not a lot. I rode for a local club for many years and always did better in national races, but I also had good results in the UCI races we did. I got my first contract for a continental team at the age of 22 years, so I was already out of the U23 category.
CT : How was the transition to the professional world made? ? What fundamentally changes compared to the continental level ?
FD : Of course, there is a change at the physical level but I knew it. What I had the most trouble with, it is to rub for the positions in the peloton, that was the biggest change i think. Furthermore, I am now part of a much bigger system with more people, equipment and everything else.
CT : Last season seemed a bit difficult to you. How do you explain this ?
FD : Yes, it's not a very good season for me, I was quite disappointed. So happy to be able to finish it with a good result in Italy at the end to show some strength [ndlr : 11and on Veneto Classic]. I had a lot of bad luck at the start of the season which prevented me from training regularly and correctly in the spring., and it took me a long time to come back after that. First I had the Covid after the Saudi Tour, then a month later I had a bad fall on the GP Denain, in addition to that I had a flu a few days after that. My second part of the season was much better than the beginning, both mentally and physically.
CT : You have just had two big successes on the French circuit. What do these two professional victories mean to you? ?
FD : It means a lot, for me first, but also for us as a team. I was finally able to show some of my predispositions to myself and the team, and I hope it can also allow me to have more opportunities in more races this year.
CT : what kind of runner are you ? Do you want to improve some points ?
FD : It's kinda hard to say, but i think i'm more like a puncher, I like races with small steeps which make the race difficult and selective, and in a small committee, I also have a decent sprint.
CT : What is next for you and what are your goals? ?
FD : My next races will now be in the Ardennes with the Amstel, La Fleche and Liège. Very hilly and challenging races at the highest level, I hope I can do a good job for the team during the races. I think we have a good team there and hopefully we can leave the Ardennes with results that we will be happy with..
CT : How do you find the atmosphere in the team ? What guy do you usually train with ?
FD : The atmosphere is fantastic, everyone speaks the same language and we really enjoy being on the road together, a fairly young team and everyone has respect for each other and always aims to improve ! I train a lot with Tord [ndlr : Gudmedstad], Alexander [ndlr : Kristoff], Martin [ndlr : Uriandstad], a foreign country [ndlr : Blikra].
CT : What race do you dream of winning ?
FD : eh good, there are many great races, but for me, it would have been a dream to win the Amstel Gold Race or De Ronde.
CT : Do you have KOMs around you ? What is your favorite climb ?
FD : I now live in Sola an hour north of Egersund. Among my favorite climbs, il y a le Skykula et le Giljastølen.
Thanks to Dvernes for this collaboration. We wish him an equally successful rest of the season..
